Black South Africans Are Not Sexy Enough

For a while, I have taken into account a few things with regards to the South African media (SABC and eTV) when it comes to Black South Africans.

Firstly let me thank the media for all the nudity screened on most American music videos with the likes of Beyonce, R Kelly, Lady Gaga, Usher, ……*endless list* since way in the 90’s; and movies such as Jason’s Lyric, Boomerang, X-rated eTV movies, …*endless list*. Did I forget to thank the South African government for allowing all American porn material to be imported and legally sold in our country?

The following made me realize that it seems Black South Africans Are Not Sexy Enough for our media:

1 - I once saw a movie called “The Line” with a sex scene where a woman’s breasts were clearly shown on the screen. The scene also sounded very intimate, I even thought they were doing it for real. A day after that episode, everyone was complaining about that scene.

2 – Two local artists, Mavusana and Mizchief, collaboration song summertime in 2001 (which maybe, the song and video idea was taken from the fully screened R. Kelly summertime song) had a lot of Black Beautiful South African ladies in bikinis and I believe it was cut out by the public broadcaster as “too revealing”. I wonder why the R. Kelly version was not cut!

3 – Another “too revealing” music video that was banned by the public broadcaster was a song called “Sika Lekhekhe” by kwaito artist, Arthur Mafokate.. Have you seen Beyonce videos played on the public broadcaster lately?

4 – Finally we get to the most recent and talked about Mapona Vol 1, a South African first All-Black porn movie from Sondeza.com (which also the site fought a strict fight to be legal). The movie has also received a lot of attention and most people being against it as anti South-African. Does this mean South Africans are not suppose to have sex? Do not tell me about the movie cause as I said earlier, the SA government has made it possible to have X-rated movies imported and legally sold in SA. To me this sounds like the SA media is saying that Black South Africans Are Not Sexy Enough for them?

Forget “too revealing” we, black South Africans, have not been wearing bras until they were introduced, actually we even invent miniskirts. Why is it a problem?
Are our Black South Africans Not Sexy Enough to show all on our media?
